Check the validity of your ESTA certificate
Before embarking for the United States, travelers with an ESTA must ensure that it is valid. ESTA authorizations are valid for a fixed period, and may be invalidated under certain conditions.
To apply in just a few minutes, simply click on ESTA online form.
How long is the ESTA valid for?
ESTAs are valid for 2 years. The travel authorization allows you to make several trips during these two years.
Two exceptions: Brunei and Hungary are both members of the Visa Waiver Program. Since 2023, their nationals have only had access to an ESTA valid for 1 year.
In what situations is the ESTA validity period different?
In certain situations, the initial two-year ESTA validity period will be reduced. Here are the main cases:
- Expired passport: The traveler’s ESTA authorization is attached to the passport used for the USA. When the passport used to obtain the ESTA expires, the ESTA authorization is no longer valid, even if its initial validity date has not been reached;
- Change of personal information: If the ESTA travel authorization holder’s name, gender or nationality changes during the two-year validity period of the ESTA, the authorization is no longer valid. Travelers must renew their ESTA.
- Change of situation: As part of an ESTA application, the traveler answered YES or NO to the questions on the form concerning his or her health and criminal record. If your personal situation has changed since you obtained your ESTA, you must update your ESTA. If the changes in your situation concern the form’s liability questions, you will need to submit a new ESTA application.
